Aha! The postman actually brought bounty today, I now have cards from
jae_w,
ephemera_pop,
dine and
joshysleo. Thank you all! And, there was my card from Chris and Lance (aww!), and Chris, you are quite right, Lance absolutely should be kissed, and with great frequency. *Very* cute indeed! Also, I have loot from
ephemera_pop, very pretty tree-dressings, which will be squirrelled away for this year as we are heading to Devon for the festivities and are consequently treeless. Unless I am inspired to decorate the mantlepiece, which I may be. Thanks, m'dear!
Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?
36 stories/poems, including this year's SeSa entry and a 'postscript' which for the moment resides only on
fic_requests. So comparable in quantity to what I did last year. Mostly short stuff. If I'd thought to predict, I guess this would have been about it. I'm a little surprised to find that I haven't written anything except SeSa since October! Disgraceful.
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January 2006?
Bwahaha. Hmm. Lance/Reichen. JC/Lonnie. Lance/Lamp (although really, that one was inevitable). Also, rather more tales involving Kevin Richardson than I would have expected.
What's your favorite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest?
*anguish* my babies! my babies! I'd like to nominate Prone, because I'm proud of it, but it's possible that actually Six Words (L/R) ought to go here, as it flowed straight out with hardly a comma to edit, and obviously satisfied a particular place in my fannish soul.
Did you take any writing risks this year? (See above for unexpected pairings, etc.) What did you learn from them?
The crack isn't something I'd define as a writing risk, although, koff, one or two people have found there is a certain hazard in *reading* it. 'Prone' was a bit of a challenge for me, in that I had a definite intention of writing something more substantial than I usually do. On reflection, writing Lance/Reichen made me feel quite insecure, as there is no fanon to rely on. Does that seem odd? Plenty of canon, in the form of pics and interviews and such, but it did feel strange writing one of the first stories for this pair - quite aside from the 'is it Bad and Wrong' worries.
Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the New Year?
Oh boy, I should make a list of Resolutions.
a) Finish the Chronicles. Really, I'm shocked and horrified to discover that I haven't posted anything in this series since February. Feel free to nag me, if you're a Chronicles reader.
b) Finish and post the Wallow. Augh!
c) Finish that Lance/AJ thing that got stalled when I got them into the bedroom. Really, it just ain't right.
d) Crack on with the fanfic100 (completing a, b and c will help, of course) and wtf27 challenges. I've done 61/100 and 6/27 so far, so completing both in 2007 is, hmm, possible but a tall order.
e) Run another Dragon Challenge in the spring.
f) Try to write at least one ficlet per month for
fic_requests
From my past year of writing, what was...
My Best Story
Prone, I should think. A question for readers rather than me, though.
Story Most Underappreciated by the Universe
I don't think anything's been unfairly neglected - the sonnet to the Bass Ass, maybe, for 'tis a thing of beauty. Ahem.
Most fun
The crack has been enormous fun... LaLa (which spawned other Lamp stories, to my delight), or possibly Who's Your Daddy? Then again, I'm very happy with my two sonnets and the adaptation of The Story of Matilda.
Most disappointing
I don't know. Not really disappointed with how anything came out (though am reserving judgment on DWNOGA story), but perhaps I wasn't particularly ambitious this year.
Most sexy
With food on the table, I should think. Again, maybe for reader judgment rather than mine.
Story With a Single Sexy Moment
I don't know... maybe Frost, a tiny ficlet with JC's cold hands being inflicted on AJ. I think this year's crop in general have less sex in them than last year's.
Hardest to Write
DWNOGA story! For several very good reasons. Otherwise, Prone.
Most Unintentionally Telling
Hmm. I don't know, though I have begun to notice myself in my stories more. I'd say 'Six Words', but that is so close to the surface, it hardly qualifies as 'unintentionally'.
Hmm. Readers' thoughts would be welcome, from those of you who aren't writing like mad things right now.

Date: 2007-01-01 02:47 pm (UTC)Lancyn wriggled a bit, and resettled the folds of his cloak between his backside and the stone wall. The view was worth a little discomfort. Before him, the sea, dancing with the sparkles of the low early evening sunlight, stretched into a hazy horizon and a fading sky. He could watch the sea for hours, he thought. There was something compelling about the steady motion of waves.
"Ooh, chestnuts!" exclaimed Chrisfer, beside him, and jumped down from the wall. It was useless to expect Chris to sit still and admire the landscape. Particularly when there was a vendor with a hot brazier, offering little woven straw baskets filled with roast chestnuts.
Content to wait for his treat, Lancyn gazed at the sea.
Something caught the corner of his eye, and he turned to see that a striped cat, pale orange and soft cream, had landed on the wall beside him. It surveyed him with lamplike green eyes, then turned away in disinterest. Lancyn eyed it suspiciously, but it stared out at the ocean, ignoring him, and after a few moments he did the same.
The scent of chestnuts, and Chrisfer's laughter, jolted him out of his daydreams.
"A perfect match!" Chris was grinning at him. The cat, affronted by the comparison, jumped lightly down and stalked away. Chris offered the basket, helped himself to a hot chestnut as he sat down in the space vacated by the cat, and blew on his fingers as he peeled away the skin. He tossed the nut into his mouth and huffed with the heat of it.
"These are good," Chrisfer said, sounding a little breathless.
Lancyn peeled one for himself, and agreed, though the hot nut singed his tongue. They sat peacefully, sharing the roasted chestnuts, and staring at the ocean, though Lancyn was doing perhaps more than his fair share of the staring, and Chrisfer more of the peeling, eating and puffing.
One day, Lancyn knew, he'd find out what was beyond that horizon. For now, though, hot chestnuts and Chris to share them with. It was good.

Date: 2007-01-01 10:30 pm (UTC)Ser Chrisfer and Lancyn! Oh how I've missed them!
This is such a lovely scene. The cat and Lancyn looking out at the sea, then roasted chestnuts and a Chris to share them with.
They sat peacefully, sharing the roasted chestnuts, and staring at the ocean
They make me all smiley, because they're so right!
Thank you!
